Ingredient Spotlight: Neroli

It seems as if every few months there’s a new all-star ingredient that’s labeled as the next cure-all: coconut oil, jojoba oil, hyaluronic acid, salicylic acid, and a whole list of “superfoods” that will help make our skin, hair and nails beautiful. At John Masters Organics we know that the rare and exotic plants we use for our formulas are not just for the eye-catching name or media hype –– we choose our ingredients specifically for their efficacy and benefits.

The neroli flower is the hero ingredient in our fan-favorite Conditioner for Normal Hair with Citrus & Neroli. But besides its sweet and citrusy scent, what else does it contribute to this hair-balancing formula?

What is neroli flower?

Neroli flower oil is distilled from the precious white blossoms of the bitter orange tree native to eastern Africa and tropical Asia. Its sweet, floral-citrus note makes it extremely popular for perfumes and essential oil blends.

Benefits of neroli flower oil:

  1. Improves skin

Neroli oil increases the skin’s absorption of anti-aging vitamin C. Vitamin C helps fight off wrinkles, fine lines and lighten the appearance of dark spots. Neroli’s natural antiseptic properties can also be beneficial for acne-prone skin.

  1. Soothes the scalp

Because of its naturally soothing and cleansing properties, neroli oil can help alleviate flakes and itchiness caused by dryness and dandruff.

  1. Sebum balancing

Scalps that overproduce or underproduce natural oils will benefit from neroli’s natural sebum-balancing properties and lightweight conditioning.

  1. Uplifting scent

Like a big glass of orange juice, the refreshingly citrus notes of neroli can instantly uplift moods by relaxing the mind, soothing stressors –– it can even help alleviate headaches.
